I didn't think there was a way of making chocolate a little bit healthier but an AgResearch scientist from Auckland proved that it is possible by making a type of chocolate that is fifty percent beef meat. They say it has the same texture as a turkish delight. They also say that there is absolutely no trace of beef flavour in this new type of chocolate. The scientist who made it thinks that when people eat it they would have no idea the chocolate had meat in it unless they were told. They estimated that each square is about 25 percent protein, as well as zinc and iron.

My opinion:
I think that the chocolate that they made is very weird even though I have never tried it.
It also makes me wonder what other flavours of chocolate are going to be made.

My Writing

Swimming in the winter

The sky is grey as I step onto the sand.
I am wrapped in a warm towel that I don’t want to take off.
I dip the tip of my toe into the freezing water,
I drop my towel and I step deeper into the cold blue sea.
Goose bumps appear on my skin as I keep on wading through the water.
I see a small wave building up in front of me and I decide to dive.
The coldness of the water surges through my body as I bring my head out of the water.
I go deeper diving under the waves till there are no waves and I am floating in the ocean,
I am growing colder as I slowly swim back to the sand.
The warmth of my towel is calling me as I ride the waves ashore.
My lips are blue and I am shivering as the dry sand greets me.
I am finally wrapped up in my towel , warm again .

A robot in Russia escaped from a science lab and caused a traffic jam. Scientists in the lab had been teaching the robot to be be able to move around by itself but it escaped when a staff member forgot to shut a gate. The robot managed to find its way to nearby streets. The robot went about fifty metres before its battery went flat. It stood in the middle of a road blocking all the traffic and it was guarded by police for about 40 minutes until it was taken back to the science lab.

My opinion:
I think that the lab should have had more security so that no robots will escape.

A seagull turned bright orange after flying into a vat of curry! The bird fell into the tub of chicken tikka masala after trying to get a piece of meat out of it. The seagull was rescued by staff who worked at the food factory and was picked up by someone who worked at a wildlife hospital . The staff at the hospital tried to wash the curry of the bird and they managed to get the colour off  but the bird still smelled like curry.yellowseagull
My opinion: I think that it is weird that the bird was able to get into the curry. I think it should have been covered even if it was trash.

Goal Reflections

Goal:  I organise myself to be ready to learn. I know when I need to take a break from my learning.

I think I worked towards this goal positively and I made the effort to take more breaks than usual I had a few huff'n'puffs and only one game so I think I could get better at doing this. I am going to keep this goal for myself to make sure I am refreshed and ready for learning. Keeping this goal will also help me stay focused and not get bored or tired.

Marshall Janson suffered from meningitis when he was just one year old and narrowly escaped with his life but unfortunately his hands and legs had to get amputated but he still didn't give up on his dream of playing football with Tottenham Hotspur. Marshall was given the opportunity to warm up with the team before their game and was thrilled that his dream was coming true. Unfortunately  his mum was worried people would laugh at him, but instead the crowd cheered. As Marshall gets older he will need new prosthetic legs every year but they cost nearly 2 million dollars so his mum has begun fundraising so she can afford new legs for Marshall .

Book Bash

This year instead of doing Book club we are calling it Book Bash and we didn't get put into groups like we did last year get to choose the book we are going to be reading. One of my options was Soldier Dog by Sam Angus and that is the group I got put into. Instead of doing a normal role this week we are all making a prediction about what we think will will happen in the book. Before we made our predictions we got to read the back of the book . This is my prediction:

I think that Stanley's brother will go off to war and Stanley and his family will start missing him badly. When the family's puppies disappear I think that is Stanley's breaking point and that is when he runs away to join the army like the back of the book says. I think he will become best friends with the dog he is put with. In the end I think he will find his brother and they will both get home safely.

This Weeks Goal

Goal: I organise myself to be ready to learn. I know when I need to take a break from my learning.

I think this is a good goal for me because sometimes I find it hard to think and sometimes I need a break
Here are three things that I am going to try hard to make sure I do this week.

1. I am going to make sure that I am taking regular brain breaks at appropriate times.

2. I am going to make sure I am eating brain food and drinking lots of water.

3. I will also try to keep myself organised so I don't get worried or stressed.

Goal Reflection

Doing the right thing in the right place

This week our goal was to do the right thing in the right space, it was also our goal last week but we still needed to work on it. I think I have achieved this goal because I have really thought about what I'm actually doing and what space suits what I'm doing like for example I needed to do some of my IE and the right space for that would have been the lounge (our quiet space) because my IE is an independent task. I also made sure that if I needed to meet with one of my groups about our collaborative learning we would go into the Hui room or the Hub because those are both collaborative zones.

Learner agency

  • Smile , Laugh have fun , Be positive, Have growth mindset
I think these things give off a positive vibe which encourages others to keep smiling and see the positive side of a negative situation.

  • Following my Mi Plan
  • Booking Myself into workshops
I know that I need to get better follow my Mi Plan because I don't always get things done on time and I believe that I can get better at getting things done on time as long as I follow my Mi Plan. I need to take advantage of the opportunity that we have of booking ourselves into workshops , I think I need to look at what the workshops are about and look at my learner profile and think if that workshop will help achieve my goals and book into the workshop.

TK College Jazz Band

This morning at nine fifteen the whole school lined up outside the hall , we were going to be hearing the Jazz band from TeKauwhata College Preform some songs. There was plenty of instruments and these are the ones I remember , Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Trumpet, Drums and Bass guitar. They preformed about forty minutes of music some of it was from the movie Frozen and some of the music was from Michael Jackson and Henry Mancini. A few of the student got to have a go playing the instruments and some people had a go at conducting the whole band.

Three men were spotted and saved after being stranded on a small isolated island in the pacific ocean . They were spotted by the US Navy and the Coastguard because of a sign they had drawn on the beach that said 'HELP'. The Sailors had been stranded for three days after there boat sunk and they were forced to swim to to the shore of the island. They used branches from the palm trees to write the sign and they also used their brightly coloured life jackets to be more visible so they would get noticed. A US navy aircraft spotted their sign and a boat was sent to pick them up from the small island which was actually called Fanadik. In the end all three of the men were fine.
